The charity space has come to my attention more recently during my cancer journey. Think about it. Most of us have purchased a charity t-shirt for a worthy cause at some point. However, the majority are never worn. They sit in our wardrobe, waiting to be dropped to the charity bins.
The simple fact that producing a single t-shirt can use up to 120 liters of water per wear, and contribute 0.01 kilograms of carbon dioxide per wear--just from dying alone--the impact the charity fashion world is having on the environment is unsustainable.
So with all of the above and my shift of career path, I would like to officially launch my “sustainable charity project”
This project is a collection of vintage t-shirts curated by myself with a lot of help from my earth angel Chloë, sourced locally in Los Angeles.
They feature hand-sewn tatas embroidered into each hand-picked item. The first collection is a mix of pieces in their vintage condition and pieces that have been hand-dyed. The dyes are a combination of vibrant toxin-free dyes and natural plant-based dyes.
The collection is a chaotic mix of vintage sportswear and music memorabilia, drawing influence from the 2020 hellscape called Los Angeles.
Each item is one of a kind; each piece has measurements and sizes. Due to the nature of this project, there are no additional sizes in each piece. Once the custom piece is sold, it’s gone, so first come, best dressed.
I am working on extending my size curve. Please feel free to drop me an email with any requests, questions, or feedback.
My intention for this project is to reduce the impact of charity fashion on the environment, offer pieces that people will ACTUALLY wear. At the same time, hopefully, the embroidery Tatas will ignite conversation in the real world around self-exams, breast cancer ACTION, and education.
The bonus is this project takes the corporate evil out of charity and this hideous illness by going straight to survivors.
This launch’s timing goes hand in hand with “Breast Cancer Awareness Month” aka “pinkwashing month.” Pinkwashing is a term used to describe corporations using the pink ribbon to drive their products’ sales, especially during October.
For further information on pinkwashing, I recommend this documentary to get you started.
Vintage condition, no visible holes or stains. Fabric has faded due to age, and hood drawstring is missing.
